Summer in the Chapter

As the summer comes to a close, it's time to recap all the happenings in the chapter since the National Conference.  On Saturday, July 14th, our mentees celebrated at their end of year event at Brunswick Bowl out in Homewood.  Our young men enjoyed pizza, bowling and laser tag, as we showed our appreciation for their hard work throughout the 2011-12 school year.

On Saturday August 4th, our gracious chapter Chairman Craig Gilmore hosted a New Member Luncheon at this home, welcoming our first-year members, as they learned more about chapter business and focused on getting in engaged in our committees and other efforts.

On Saturday August 11th, we participated in this year's 79th annual Bud Billiken Back to School parade.  Mentees, mentors, members and volunteers came out an populated our awesome float, sponsored by State Farm.  We strutted our stuff proudly once again on national television (WGN) and were able to generate some great publicity for our Annual College Scholarship Fair, which will be Saturday October 13th and UIC Pavilion.  A special thanks goes out to David Day for running point on the efforts to bolster our turnout.

Finally, on Saturday August 18th, John Anderson, Mentoring Chair, hosted our annual Mentoring Summit at Link Unlimited in Chicago.  Members came out and were trained on our National Program - Mentoring the 100 Way - by our Past President, Jeff Jackson, and our 2012-13 strategic planning efforts began, including the re-launch of our West Suburban program, tentatively set for October 20th at the Quad County Urban League in Aurora.

Our Saturday programs on the South Side (Chicago State) and  West Side (site TBD), will tentatively begin on September 22nd.  Enjoy the rest of the summer!
