Interviewing (Southside)

Jay Mathis & Andre Edmonds led today's session on interviewing, the focus being on employment but the necessary skills needed for successful job hunting can also be applied to college interviews. The mentees got together in pairs and interviewed one another, the interviewer taking notes on the interviewee's performance. Afterwards the mentees came back together as a group and everyone took turns talking about the experience, what they did good, bad and where improvements would need to be made. Mentees who came prepared, dressed in slacks, collar shirt and tie along with a copy of their resume received a $5 Subway gift card.

Chicago Bulls

The 100 BMC mentees from the Westside and Southside attended the Chicago Bulls vs. Charlotte Bobcats game Saturday night. Thanks to the generosity of 100 BMC member Dr. George Smith the mentees were afforded the luxury of watching the game in a Pent House suite. In addition, 100 BMC member, Curtis Cooper was able to get the mentees onto the floor pre game for a photo op at center court. It's important to note that the game was a reward for the mentees that participated in the stock game and completed their resume assignment.

Resumes (100BMC Soutshside)

As we get closer to the end of the school year teens across Chicago will be on the hunt for summer time employment. With the economy still recovering the job market will undoubtedly be competitive. In order to give the mentees a competitive advantage, today they began the process of creating their first resume. But before they put pen to paper the mentees first went through several exercises which helped them to better understand the various components that make up a resume. After completing several group exercises the mentees were charged with creating a 1 page resume by next Saturday's session. Can't wait to see the result.
